The Tennessee States’ Association held their annual Floral Forum/Convention this past weekend at the Cool Springs Marriott in Franklin, TN. During the 3 day event floral designers from around the country presented themed floral design shows that inspired all of those in attendance. On Saturday night, during their Presidential Gala, the Association announcement their new President.
Donny Johnson AIFD, CFD, TCF was announced as the new President. Donny has been in the floral industry for approximately 24 years. He was sworn in Saturday evening. Past president Brenda Blackburn AIFD, CFD, TCF noted during the evening that Mr. Johnson’s passion, commitment and service to the industry and the state association. He also was inducted in the Crystal Rose Society and received the Living Legend Award for his “Service above Self”, “upholding excellence in the floral industry, and exceeding the standards in their mission.
Mr. Johnson stated he was honored to serve the members and board as their new president. He then revealed the theme for the 2020 conference through a combination of dancers who orchestrated beautiful choreography. The choreography continued through a live performance of the song,” Defying Gravity”, from the Broadway musical wicked.
Later during a “Fresh Talk” segment with past President Brenda Blackburn AIFD, CFD, TCF, and Middle Tennessee Regional Director, Eric Johnson, he told the members that his passion is training and education to promote and strengthen the industry. He continued to reveal that he intends in introduce “Designer Boot Camps” throughout Tennessee that will include both Boot Camp 101 which would focus on fundamentals of designs and Boot Camp 201 which focus on advanced skills. The segment also spoke about membership and other educational opportunities through the association.
The Tennessee State Florists’ Association celebrated 67 years this past weekend. It was evident that he and the board were preparing for great things in the upcoming year. It was noted by all that the attendees were excited about the vision and direction that he, the past president and board were bringing to the association.
